Transforming Jhilmila Wetlands into a Productive Farming Area

Jhilmila village, situated in Ward No. 5 of Beldandi Rural Municipality, was traditionally a wetland where only one-season crops were cultivated. Residents avoided farming the land due to its wet nature. However, over the past 2–3 years, at least 50–60 households from Milan CDG and Shuklaphata CDG have started cultivating a special variety of rice called ChaiteDhan, suitable for the area.

Bhaga Rokaya, a 37-year-old resident of Gaumul Rural Municipality, is a proud member of the Kartabya Community Development Group (CDG). With family of seven, including her husband and five children. Bhaga faced many challenges in ensuring a stable income for her household. Her husband, who worked as a seasonal laborer, had no fixed source of earnings, making it difficult to meet the family’s daily need.

Gender Role Transformation in Laligurans Group

Laligurans is the community group of Sanni Triveni rural municipality ward number 1 with 17 group members. Although the community is socially harmonious, women were carrying most of the responsibilities. Women were responsible for cooking, childcare, collecting firewood and fodder from the forest, field work. While men are mainly engaged in income generating or outdoor activities and rarely supported domestic work.

Drinking Water Tap Repair by group members

Lagasnshil group was formed in 2081 in ward number 2 of Sanni Triveni rural municipality, Kalikot with 18 group members. The group is involved in regular discussions, problem identification and development of action plans. The community awareness and the active participation increased and group members are discussing the problems they are facing in the group meeting.
