Voice from the field
The three day local government capacity development workshop has been a “point” for me to dig into my previous approach of planning and strategy developing. Hence, this workshop has truly motivated me to implement people-centered planning and strategy development to increase more marginalized people getting real benefits and sustainable development.
Lok Raj Kc, Chairperson, Rajpur Rural Municipality, Dang
The local level capacity building workshop for 3 days by Sahakarmi Samaj has created an enabling environment to have regular interaction between the elected representatives and staff, resulting in effective and efficient service deliverance. The created environment has contributed in preparing effective and result-oriented development plans with effective and meaningful engagement of local marginalized groups.

The people centered Development concept workshop for 3 days facilitated by Sahakarmi Samaj has been an agent for change in our traditional working approach. Bringing both the staff and the elected representatives in one common forum for open discussion and interaction has helped filling gaps between them resulting in improving the relationship, whereas joint efforts with the clear concept of people centered development has contributed in making the development program for the target community more effective.
Dhan Bahadur Thapa Chhetri, Chairperson Beldandi RM, Kanchanpur
People centered Development concept workshop has given an avenue to understand the context of development and draw attention of elected representatives towards identification of local resources, their mobilisation and conservation. The training is overall very effective in terms of sensitising the elected representatives on their roles, responsibilities and rights.
Jaman Singh, Chair person, Geruwa RM, Bardiya
Although I could not participate in the government capacity development workshop, I am well aware about the Sahakarmi Samaj working approach. The entire process of brining community people to come together in a team, creating environment for their capacity development and coaching them for taking further initiation of developing their own capacity has supported in sustainable development. Establishing community governance would definitely transform the society, is what Sahakarmi Samaj believes in and that’s exactly what I too believe in.
Chandra Prakash Gharti, Mayor, Bheri Municipality Jajarkot
The methodology and approach being used by Sahakarmi Samaj while delivering people centered development concept has given an opportunity to have intensive discussion between elected representatives and staff. The joint workshop organised outside the local territory on this important topic has helped us focus on the issues and build the common understanding of “development concept” and their role and responsibilities to establish governance with future strategy. The 3 days residential workshop in Sahakarmi Samaj training centre has not only gave us feelings of “Another home out from home” but also give us enough space to have intensive discussions with each other. This has eased us in designing and planning process with the active participation of citizens.
Navraj Joshi, Ward Chair, Chaukune RM Surkhet
Sahakarmi Samaj has taught much to make the development process “people centered”. Sahakarmi Samaj has brought the people together by developing their analytical capacity and is continuing several initiations in establishing the access of marginalised community on government services and facilities.
Bishnu Chaudhary, Ward Chairperson, Kailari RM Kailali
I am a former employee of Sahakarmi Samaj and know the entire working approach and process. It is a leading organisation to create environment in bringing the most marginalised community together, identify their own problems and figure out the solutions by themselves through analysis. Since a long time, it has been working for developing the capacity of elected representatives to make Nepal’s development process “people centered”. Hence, Sahakarmi Samaj has a very important contribution in strengthening the community governance.
Sanu Mahara, Vice Coordinator, District Coordination Committee, Kanchanpur
Sahakarmi Samaj has been working for emerging community groups by bringing together people from marginalised community, mobilising them and teaching capacity development. I myself was a member of community group. The credit goes to Sahakarmi Samaj in developing my capacity and skills with enough space of learning; as a result I am now elected as a vice chairperson of Rajpur Rural Municipality. I realised that Sahakarmi Samaj has a remarkable contribution in making the development “people centered”.
Dhanpati Yadav, Vice Chair Person, Rajpur Rural Municipality, Dang
Sahakarmi Samaj is a leading organisation on this area, believing that development in possible if one is really willing. Hence, it has been initiating various campaigns and process in creating environment for the people to bring change within them. It has a remarkable contribution in developing the self-confidence of the people and transform their traditional perception by making them believe that group work is really important and decreasing the tendency of dependency. I realised and felt that, trainings and workshops organised by Sahakarmi Samaj has contributed much in brining significant change in people’s perception.
